There are now two ways to open and view DjVu documents. Included with the DjVu Browser Plug-in is a new standalone viewer called the DjVu Viewer. While the DjVu Viewer enables you to view local DjVu documents (those located on your own computer) without using a browser, a browser is necessary for viewing DjVu documents over a network, such as the Web.
The DjVu Browser Plug-in enables your browser to open any DjVu document online or on a network. By default local files automatically open with the DjVu Viewer*, but if you wish you can view them through a browser by dragging and dropping them into the browser window.
Upon opening a DjVu document, you will be looking at the Viewing Area.
*NOTE: If you already have a previous version when you install DjVu Browser Plug-in 6.1, a dialog box notifies you that DjVu files currently open with another application and asks whether you would like to change this and use DjVu Viewer to open local files. If you click Yes local files will automatically open with the DjVu Viewer, just as they would if you were installing the DjVu Browser Plug-in for the very first time. Click No if you want DjVu files to continue to be opened through your Web browser.
